Welcome to our weekly podcast “Roots to Grooves”.
Each episode explores the music, life and careers of musical artists from their earliest beginnings through to their most recent releases.
This week musicians Jay Purcell and Jesse Quigley discuss the career and creative approaches of Australian psychedelic rock band “Pond“.
“Pond” are a psychedelic rock band from Perth, Western Australia.
Although the band official formed in 2008, their roots can be traced back to 2005, when singer Nick Albrook got together with a few friends under the name of “Electric Blue Acid Dogs”. Feeling that the name was not appropriate when entering a local battle-of-the-bands competition, they renamed themselves to “Mink Mussel Creek”. It was at this time they crossed paths with Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker, who would later join them as their drummer and go on to produce a number of Pond’s early studio albums. Since those early days the band have gone on to tour the world and drop 9 studio albums. Join Jay and Jesse as we dive into the history of “Pond” and spin a few favorite tracks, including some early rare jam/demo recordings which also feature Kevin Parker on drums.
