Roots to Grooves – Sen Morimoto

Welcome to our weekly podcast “Roots to Grooves”.
Each episode explores the music, life and careers of musical artists from their earliest beginnings through to their most recent releases.

This week musicians Jay Purcell and Jesse Quigley discuss the career and creative approaches of Chicago based, electronic/R&B producer and artist “Sen Morimoto“.

Sen Morimoto” is a producer, artist and multi-instrumentalist based in Chicago, who brings an often witty but always observational style of lyricism to his style of modern off-kilter R&B.

Born in Japan but moving to the USA when he was just a small child, Sen kicked off his musical journey by learning Saxophone under the tutelage of Charles Neville, a legendary jazz musician from the New Orleans scene. It was an experience that taught him a lot not just about playing Sax but in how to bring out the emotion and feeling in any song within your given instrument.

After a solo move to Chicago Sen would begin to meet many other likeminded musicians and producers, leading to his first album release, 2018’s “Cannonball!”.

There is a lot more to know about Sen’s early years, and his approach to music, and of course that’s just what Jay and Jesse are talking about on this installment of Roots to Grooves.
